Digital Etiquette is a basic set of rules pertaining to behavior that needs to be followed to ensure the internet is better for all users. Digital Citizens need to use good manners in online communication in order to keep the digital world a good and appropriate environment for all users.
There are certain individuals that fail to abide by the riles of the Digital Etiquette and they do not treat other individual with polite manners on the internet. these inappropriate behaviors can be listed as Cyber-bullying, Identity theft and hacking other individuals computer system for corrupt intentions. Cyber-bullying which takes place in electronic technology with the use of online communication when the internet culprit use hurtful words to bully other individuals by sending messages of threatening and intimidating nature.
Hacking is the process of exploiting vulnerabilities to gain unauthorized access to system or resources. This is when a computer experts use their knowledge to hack other individuals computer system.
Identity theft can be defined as all types of crime in which someone wrongfully obtain and uses another person;s personal data.
Examples of inappropriate behavior in the digital wold:
An explicit video of a teenage girl was posted on Facebook by a friend who had possessed it by going through the girls phone. When this video went viral on Facebook the girl faced a hard time dealing with this situation, her parents saw the video and she was chased away from her home.It got worse when the girl almost committed suicide. If the individual that stole the video had abided by the rules of netiquette there wouldn't have been so much drama.
Guidelines for individuals in the digital world
- Mind your typing style, do not write words in capital letters, people know that as shouting and many people don't like to be shouted.
- Watch what words you use and use a clean language.
- Learn to be patient with people who are new to the internet.
- When using a header for an email make sure the content and the header relate
- Avoid overusing emotions.
